Abstract

It is a hot topic to realize high-immersion three-dimensional (3D) virtual reality near-eye displays without the accommodation-convergence conflict. Light-field near-eye display method is considered as one of the most potential solutions to achieve this goal. To obtain virtual image for light-field near-eye displays, many researchers have focused on the light field rendering method. In this paper, we propose a universal rendering method to generate light-field pattern for light-field near-eye displays based on OpenGL computer graphics. Each micro-structure is treated as a virtual camera, which can easily be parallelly computed and employed in light-field near-eye displays using multiple micro-structures with arbitrary distribution including a micro-lens array, a pinhole array and random holes. To verify the proposed method, the rendering system based on micro-structures with arbitrary distribution is constructed. Experimental results have shown that the rendered images can reconstruct the virtual scene and be focused on different depth in the light-field near-eye displays system.
