An experiment investigation on combustion characteristics and heat release rate of an opposed-piston two-stroke diesel engine

摘要

The in-cylinder gas motion, combustion chamber geometry and nozzle position in opposed-piston two-stroke diesel engines (OP2S) are distinctively different from conventional diesel engines. In this paper, the combustion and heat release characteristics of a model OP2S under different operating conditions were experimentally investigated. The results show that the heat release process can be divided into ignition delay, premixed combustion phase, diffusion combustion phase and late combustion phase. Load changing has small effect on the premixed combustion phase, while it affects the diffusion combustion phase significantly.
