Al-based bulk metallic glass with large plasticity and ultrahigh strength

Abstract

In this study, we reported an Al86Ni7Er5Co1La1 bulk metallic glass, which exhibits ultrahigh strength of up to ∼1525 MPa together with apparent work hardening and large ductile of ∼11%. The high plasticity is attributed to the multiple shear bands, which restrict the catastrophic failure of the bulk metallic glass, and finally increase the flow stress of the material resulting in a work hardening behavior.
