Research on Driving Distraction Based on Peripheral Detection Task

摘要

In order to quantitatively research on driving distraction, a method based on peripheral detection task (PDT) of measuring driver's reaction time is established. The method is applied to measuring the reaction time of the driver in the virtual driving simulation platform when the driver is answering the phone during driving, and through analyzing the difference of the reaction time in two different driving environments, the effect that answering the phone has on driving is obtained. The result shows that answering the phone during driving leads to the highest increase of 52.8%, the lowest increase of 31.7%, and the overall average increase of 41.0%. Therefore, answering the phone during driving leads to driving distraction and a great extension of the driver's reaction time, then increases the probability of the traffic accident.
