title = "Notice of Retraction: Preliminary purification of salsolinol synthase from rat brain",
abstract = "Several studies suggest that l-methyl-6, 7-dihydroxy-l, 2, 3, 4 - tetrahydroisoquinoline (Salsolinol, Sal) is toxic to dopaminergic neurons, and it is one of the most discussed tetrahydroisoquinolines whose chemical structure is the same with MPTP, it may cause PD. Studies show that salsolinol is biosynthesized by a novel enzyme named salsolinol synthase in human brain. Salsolinol synthase is one kind of enzyme catalyzes the condensation of dopamine and acetaldehyde. It was preliminary purified from rat brains first time in this paper. The purification procedure involved ultracentrifugation, DEAE anion exchange chromatography and gel filtration chromatography. HPLC-ECD was used for enzyme activity detection during purification. Salsolinol synthase was purified 2753.1 fold from the crude enzyme extract.",
