FUSION OF VESICLES BY THE GHZ ACOUSTIC STREAMING

摘要

In this work, we constructed an acoustofluidic system based on a droplet-shaped bulk acoustic wave resonator (BAW) to realize the manipulation of vesicles by three-dimensional acoustic vortex. The acoustic streaming effect generated by the BAW of GHz frequency was enhanced in the microfluidic channel, which induced high-speed vortex and rendered the fusion of two contact vesicles. Giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) were used to visualize the trapping and fusion process with a fluorescence microscope. Experiments show that two GUVs separately labelled with two kinds of dyes form a hybrid GUV after fusion in this acoustofluidic system, which can be potentially applied in the field of micro-reactors or used to mimic cellular communications.
