Abstract

A C3-symmetric tris(bisurea) ligand L assembles with PO 43- ions to form the tetrahedral cage [(PO 4)4L4]12-. The PO4 3- ions form the four vertices and each forms 12 N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds with 6 urea groups. A unique trinuclear pinwheel-like helical complex [(SO4)3L2]6- is formed from L and SO42- ions (see picture).
