Abstract

Metal cluster/dendrimer nanocompositions are polymer nanomaterials prepared using dendrimers as templates, that is, the dendrimer first acts as a molecular template to prepare the metal nanoparticles and then as a stabilizer to prevent agglomeration. In addition to single-metal nanoparticles, it is also possible to prepare bimetallic nanoclusters and dendrimer-encapsulated semiconductor nanoparticle. This article reviews the synthesis methods of this materials, including direct chemical reduction, light-irradiation reduction, metal-displacement reaction and salt-forming and its applications to catalysis, fingerprint detection and fire suppressants.
