Abstract

To study effect of performance of restraint system on the occupant's response during impact, the mechanical model for vehicle-occupant system, consisting of 14 rigid bodies, 31 degree of freedom and slip joints, was built based on multibody dynamics and classical impact dynamics. The software, named SVC3D (3D simulation of vehicle crash), was developed. The effect of elongation of the belt webbing and the belt pretensioner on the occupant's response during impact were analyzed. It has been shown that the simulation results is in agreement with tests and the occupant should be equipped with pretensioner and belted with low elongation webbing.
