Abstract

In this paper, a high-gain series-fed array antenna that can be applied to 77GHz millimeter-wave automotive radar system is proposed. The planar series-fed patch array (SFPA) includes 10 × 10 elements printed on a single substrate layer. The widths of the patches are tailored to reduce the sidelobe level (SLL). A compact waveguide-to-microstrip transition is designed to feed the array antenna. The -10 dB impedance bandwidth of the proposed design is 6.1%, ranging from 73.82GHz to 78.52GHz. The maximum realized gain is 23.72 dBi. The SLL is - 13.8 dB in E-plane with half-power beamwidth (HPBW) of 9.1°, and is -21.5 dB in H-plane with HPBW of 11.6°.
