Abstract

Monodisperse poly (methyl methacrylate) particles with crosslinking density were prepared by dispersion polymerization of methyl methacrylate in methanol. The effect of the concentrations of initiator, stabilizer and crosslinker and the ratio of different solvents in the medium on the particle size and size distribution were investigated. The results showed that particle size and size distribution increased with the increase of the mass fraction of the initiator; and particle size decreased as the mass fraction of the crosslinker and stabiliter increased. The size distribution index increased with the increase of the mass fraction of initiator, and with the decrease of the mass fraction of crosslinker and stabiliter. The effect of different solvents were complex and any conclusion could not be drawn.
