Abstract
Based on the genetic algorithm(GA), a new optimizing design method of bus body frame is introduced. A FEM model of bus body frame is built with the FEM software ANSYS and used to evaluate each design. The GA is accessed in the optimizing process. The total weight of bus body is reduced about 719 kg and a weight reduction about 25% is achieved. The optimization results show that this optimizing method using GA is better than the traditional design using the mathematical programming method. The lightweight design of an electric bus body frame is realized.
