Abstract

A novel one-dimensional germante JLG-4, [Ni(1,2-diaminopropane) 3]2(HOCH2CH2CH2NH 3)3(H3O)2[Ge7O 14X3]3 (X= F, OH), with 12-ring hexagonal tubular channels has been prepared. The 12-ring tube comprising 10-ring windows is produced by corner-sharing of Ge7 clusters. The metal complex [Ni(1,2-PDA)3]2+ is self-assembled during the solvothermal synthesis and acts as the structure-directing agent (SDA) along with 3-amino-1-propanol that acts as SDA and solvent. By using the auto assembly secondary building unit (AASBU) approach, new open-framework germanate structures with large pores and low-framework density can also be designed by using Ge7 clusters as SBUs.
