Abstract

In order to investigate the influence of core splicing on mechanical properties of warship composite radome sandwich plate, a series of comparative tests were designed to study its influence on ultimate bearing capacity, complex stability and failure modes of sandwich plate. It is found that core splicing has a great influence on failure modes and failure load of the structure. In the first group of contrastive tests, delamination is apt to be induced on account of core splicing, resulting in skin tensile fracture and 11.5% decrement in ultimate bearing capacity. The main failure modes in complex stability test is penetrative and local skin compressive fracture and the effect of core splicing on failure modes is the difference from the former, which shows the difference of damage position and the decrement of complex buckling load with 28.6%. Beside, the complication of technology makes the discreteness of the mechanical properties of sandwich plate increase.
