Personal profile

Personal profile

Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Foreign Academician of the US National Academy of Engineering, Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and an expert in the field of materials and structural mechanics. Currently serving as the President of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM), Councilor of the International Council for Science's International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM), Professor at Beijing Institute of Technology, and Honorary Dean and Chief Scientist of the Advanced Structural Technology Research Institute at Beijing Institute of Technology. Previously served as the President of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (~November 2023), Director of the Mechanics Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education (~December 2022), Vice President of Beijing Institute of Technology (~November 2018), etc.

Research Interests

Mainly engaged in the research of theoretical, computational, and experimental methods for advanced materials and structural mechanics. Extended the macroscopic and microscopic deformation and fracture theories of ferroelectric/ferromagnetic materials, which have been applied in finite element analysis and device design. Developed multi-field, multi-scale computational mechanics methods and design and preparation methods for advanced materials and structures. The research results have been applied in high-end equipment structures such as the lattice main load-bearing structure of the world's first additively manufactured satellite and the domestic first main load-bearing heterogeneous composite floating frame structure for rail transit equipment. Developed multi-field, multi-axis loading, testing techniques, and experimental methods for advanced materials, broke through a series of material property testing techniques under thermal/mechanical/oxygen-coupled environments, and independently developed a series of ultra-high-temperature testing instruments, filling the domestic gap. It has become one of the main platforms for aerospace ultra-high-temperature mechanical property testing in China, supporting the development of major national defense equipment such as aerospace re-entry capsules and key model aircraft.
