Abstract

A reconfigurable leaky-wave antenna (LWA) with 360° continuous phase shift is proposed for beam steering at fixed frequency. The structure includes a 1×8 patch array, a microstrip transmission line, and 8 phase shifters. Each phase shifter cascades 2 varactors with 2 PIN diodes. The varactors provide 180° continuous phase shift, while the PIN diodes can switch the phase in 0°/180° states. By properly control the biasing voltage, a full 360° continuous phase shift can be produced. The peak gain of the array is 13.9 dBi. A wide beam steering ranged from -57° to 54° is achieved within 3 dB gain variation.
