Abstract

At present, the characteristics of mixed traffic have not been well realized. We proposed a longitudinal moving model and study the characteristics of mixed traffic on single-lane composed of fast and slow vehicles with numerical simulation. The results show that if the maximum-velocity of slow vehicles is smaller than the critical velocity of the fast vehicles traffic, the fundamental diagrams are different when the traffic composition varies. We identified that there are four different kinds of spatio-temporal patterns in mixed traffic. The conclusion is that the difference in maximum-velocity of vehicles is significant to traffic flow.
