Abstract

This paper presents an asymmetric wideband pulsed load modulation (PLM) power amplifier (PA) with post-matching structure. By providing asymmetry PLM PA with different optimal load impedance, the main PA can reach saturation in advance. The auxiliary PA outputs more power, when two PAs are saturated. This enlarges the power back-off range. An asymmetric wideband PLM PA based on GaN HEMT transistor has been designed and fabricated. Measured result of the proposed PLM PA shows 9 dB output power back-off range at 3.15 GHz with efficiency in excess of 43%. At the same time, the proposed PLM PA can achieve high efficiency amplification from 2.8GHz to 3.3GHz.
