Abstract

Instead of practical radar systems, the concept of radar echoes simulator is used to rapidly generate the radar echoes of the illuminated space targets within a beam, which are then sent to the subsequent signal processing system. The purpose of developing the multi-target echoes simulator is to test the multi-target detection and tracking ability of radar signal processing system in the laboratory environment. This paper describes a real-time multi-target radar echoes simulator system which utilizes the GPU to improve its real-time performance. The experiments are conducted to compare the time consumptions between the traditional CPU-based simulator and the novel GPU-based simulator. The result shows that the GPU-based simulator consumes much less time than that of the CPU-based simulator. Besides, two modified schemes are proposed to further optimize the GPU-based real-time simulator, and the time consumption can be further decreased to nearly 6.5ms which is applicable for real-time radar echoes simulator system.
