Abstract

TiB/Ti–6Al–4V composites with controllable orientation were synthesized by powder consolidation and hot extrusion. The in situ reaction of TiB2 and Ti–6Al–4V occurs during hot extrusion. The produced composites show an excellent tensile strength of 1350 ± 20 MPa and an elongation 4.5 ± 0.5% due to distribution of the TiB whiskers along extrusion direction.
