Abstract
In comparison with a free air blast, an internal blast with the same equivalent has distinguishing features and a much greater power. With an internal loading device devised, the dynamic response and failure modes of eight cases of different clamped square plates were carried out. Analysis of the loading, plastic deformation and failure modes at different gauge points leads to the following results: (1) the loading at the corner is much bigger than that at any other locations; (2) the plastic deformation of the plate with a different TNT position is mainly affected by quasi-static pressure; (3) there are two failure modes in an internal blast, i.e. Failure Mode Ⅰ (large inelastic deformation) and Failure Mode Ⅱ (tensile tearing at the boundary).
