Abstract
Bulkhead damage is the important precondition for explosive damage range increase. Based on scaled experiment, failure modes of bulkheads under internal blast were categorized. After that, the numerical simulation was carried out with Cowper-Symonds model considering strain rate effect. At the same time, the deformation progress, the deformation, the plastic strain and the stress state were discussed. It is shownthat: (1) there are four failure modes (large plastic deformation, tearing at edge, overturn as a whole and fly as a whole) of bulkheads under internal blast; (2) the new bulkhead could improve blast resistance of bulkheads; (3) the two main mechanisms for improving bulkhead blast resistance are reduction of plastic strain and change of stress state to increase failure strain of metal.
