N2 - Open innovation has been developing vigorously as the leading model for the manufacturing industry to accelerate innovation and improve product competitiveness in the era of knowledge economy. However, innovative design in an open environment faces three challenges: difficulty in gathering distributed design resources, low accuracy in matching tasks and resources, and high uncertainty in the design process, which in turn leads to the deterioration of the product design ecology. For addressing these problems, crowdsourcing design theory based on collective intelligence collaborative innovation was put forward. Then a theoretical system of crowdsourcing design was established from two aspects, including the micro-level of the product design process and the macro-system level of the aggregation of collective intelligence. The proposed theoretical system conducted a comprehensive and detailed analysis of the dynamic change mechanism of the design process and various activities in crowdsourcing design. These works were expected to provide theoretical reference for product crowdsourcing design practice.
