He has been engaged in research on precision instruments for a long time, including: high-precision planar/spherical reference technology, aspherical/free-form optical surface shape measuring instruments, micro-nano testing of high-aspect ratio devices, contact/non-contact displacement sensing, laser confocal micro-resolution imaging, ultra-precision rotating shafting motion error monitoring and control. As the project leader and main participant, he undertook 6 National Nature Foundation projects, postdoctoral special funding projects, and national defense projects, and obtained 22 authorized invention patents.
