Study on in situ transverse tensile strength of laminated composites

摘要

An investigation was conducted to study the transverse tensile strength of orthotropic symmetric laminated composites employing the elastic theory and fracture mechanics. The influence of 90°. laminae thickness and orientation of the adjacent laminate were the primary concern. A direct relation between the in situ transverse tensile strength and the 90°. laminate thickness and the degree of adjacent constraint lays was derived. The theoretical calculation was compared with the experimental data of Flaggs's and an excellent agreement was found between them.
