T1 - Structural diversity of a family of aluminophosphates with Al/P ratio of non-unity

N2 - A family of organically templated aluminophosphates (denoted AlPOs) with an Al/P ratio of non-unity has been prepared with 1-D chain, 2-D layer and 3-D open-framework architectures. Their inorganic parts are constructed from alternating Al-centered polyhedra (AlO4, AlO5, AlO4(OH2)2) and P-centered tetrahedra P(O-Al)(n)O4-(n) (n = 0, 1, 2, 3). The existence of terminal P-OH and/or P=O groups in the structures results in the deviation of Al/P ratio from unity, and the commonly encountered Al/P ratios are 1/2, 3/5, 2/3, 3/4, 4/5 and 5/6. This review will discuss the structural features of these AlPOs with various dimensionalities and stoichiometries. (C) 2000 Editions scientifiques et medicales Elsevier SAS.
