摘要

A typical method of limiting the power output of race car engine is to restrict the engine air flow rate. The Formula SAE requires a restrictor of circular cross-section no greater than 20mm must be fitted between the throttle and the engine inlet. This restrictor changes the whole operation of the engine and damages the torque features. However, power and torque output are very important for race car. There are a number of parameters can be tuned to maximize the performance of the restricted engine. This paper is focused on the design of intake system in order to optimize engine performance. In this paper the effect of intake plenum volume and intake runner length on engine performance is investigated with the aim of constituting a base study to design a intake system. Then redesign the intake system. Finally,in restricted format the optimum engine intake conFigureuration produce a peak power of 38kW. In addition, there is a flat torque curve with 93% of the peak torque available over the useful speed range of 5000-8500rpm. This provides continuous torque delivery and makes the engine much more suitable for FSAE competition.
