摘要
The zirconia ceramic was flash joined in 1 s by applying an electric field. The joining was performed at temperatures as low as 600 °C, with a joint three-point bend strength of ca. 418 MPa and a smaller grain size than that of the parent material. The joining strength was further enhanced with the increase in bonding temperature, reaching ca. 595 MPa at 900 °C. Ultrafast superplastic deformation of the ceramic under the applied electric field and the subsequent accelerated mass transport are proposed as the underlying mechanism for flash joining.
