N2 - Aim To present a method of real-time knock detection for Vehicular Gasoline Engines. Methods Vibration of the cylinder head was measured, then the knock detection frequency was determined, the probabilistic method and mathematical statistics were applied to analyzing the vibration signal of the cylinder head, it could be find that the peak values during the knock detection period followed their logarithmic normal distribution under non-knock, knock and heavy knock conditions, on this basis, the accurate knock detection level was determined. Results The electronic control unit (ECU) could store various knock detection levels corresponding to different operating states, the real-time knock detection could be achieved according to the knock detection levels. Conclusion By means of measuring the vibration of the cylinder head and determining the knock detection levels, the accurate and real-time knock detection can be achieved.
