摘要

Ultra high strength alloy steels are used widely in the manufacture of cylinder bodies, on the account of their super mechanical behavior and physical character. This research was concerned with the analytical and experimental study in the face milling of an ultra high strength alloy steels with a single insert fly-cutter in dry cutting condition. The machinability of this material was analyzed in terms of cutting forces, chip pattern, tool life and surface roughness of the work-piece machined with carbide insert under milling condition. The effect of machining parameters on the cutting force and the surface roughness of work-piece was also investigated in this paper. All cutting condition were arranged in orthogonal experiment way. The EDX analysis of the chip was carried out to study the interaction between the cutting edge and the chip. The SEM was used to obtain the images of the chip. Based on the findings of this study, we concluded that the cutting forces of this material measured in milling condition are 1.2-2.2 times higher than those of medium carbon steel. On the scale of 100, the machinability rating of this material is 24.5. Besides, the general understanding of this material, such as typical formation process of the chip, was established.
