Low-RCS high-gain partially reflecting surface antenna with reconfigurable ground plane

摘要

In this paper, a high-gain partially reflecting surface antenna (PRS) with both in-band and out-of-band RCS reduction (RCSR) is presented. A microstrip patch antenna acts as the source, and is surrounded by the reconfigurable metamaterial ground plane (RMGP), which is to reduce the in-band RCS of the proposed antenna. A partially reflecting surface is located approximately one half of the wavelength above the RMGP to enhance the antenna directivity, and an absorbing surface is adopted to reduce the out-of-band RCS of the antenna. The simulated results reveal that a significant RCSR has been accomplished in the frequency ranges of 6-20 GHz. Compared with the reference antenna, the average out-of-band RCSR of the proposed antenna is about 10 dB for both TE and TM polarization incident waves, what's more, the in-band RCSR is more than 17dB for the TE polarization incident wave and 9 dB for the TM polarization incident wave. The peak gain of the proposed antenna is 16.9 dBi at the operating frequency of 10.5 GHz.
