High-speed observations of cavitating vortices around a Hydronautics foil

摘要

The cavitating vortices around a Hydronautics supercavitation foil have been observed by means of a high-speed video camera. The results show that the forming and developing of cavitation around the hydrofoil are related to the vortices produced at the foil's front (suction side) and rear (pressure side), or the combination of both: vortex street; the characteristics of the cavitating vortex street's forming and crumbling depend on the variation of the cavitation number; with the decreasing of cavitation number, an enclosured supercavitating area will be formed with the expanding of cavitation vortices in the vortex street.
