摘要

The grinding experiments of zirconia toughened mullite composites (ZTM) using diamond wheels were carried out in this paper. The causes of ground surface defects and surface phase transformation are analyzed in detail. The effects of grinding on the wear resistance of ZTM composites are investigated. Surface analyses show that plastic deformations and micro-cracks emerged on the ground surface. The phase structure of ZrO2 on the ground surface of ZTM was transformed from t-ZrO2 to m-ZrO2 because of the combined actions of grinding force and grinding temperature. The results of friction and wear tests show that the wear resistance of the original sintered surface of ZTM is 1.7-4.3 times higher than that of the ZTM ground surface. Therefore, in order to make full use of ZTM composites in tribological field, the ground surface quality of ZTM composites must be improved.
