Characterization method of flexoelectric coefficient of piezoelectrics at nanoscale

摘要

An analytical method for measuring the flexoelectric coupling coefficient at nanoscale based on nano-compression technique is proposed in this paper. The flexoelectric formula in the method is derived through the thermodynamic method with consideration of the piezoelectric influence and the flexoelectric coupling coefficient, which can be directly obtained by measuring the stiffness of the constant cross-section pillar and the variable cross-section pillar. Meanwhile, the size and shape effect of the variable cross-section on the stiffness reduction is analyzed by numerical methods to determine the guideline for the pillars designing, hence improve the accuracy of the flexoelectric coupling coefficient measurement. The proposed method achieves flexoelectric coupling coefficient measurement at nanoscale in a mechanical way without electric polarization or current measurement, which paves the path for the design and application of the flexoelectric nano devices.
