BALLISTIC PERFORMANCE OF ZNO MODIFIED TWARON/POLYETHYLENE COMPOSITE FABRIC

摘要

Aramid and polyethylene fabric are gradually applied to bulletproof products due to their excellent mechanical properties. However, the inert surface of aramid fabric is difficult to chemically combine with other substances, which limits the further optimization of its bulletproof properties. In this paper, a new method of fabric surface modification is proposed, which uses KH560 coupling agent to graft ZnO nanoparticles onto aramid fiber. The ballistic limit velocity of ZnO modified Twaron/polyethylene composite fabric is 101% higher than that of neat aramid fabric, and 19% higher than that of polyethylene fabric. The numerical simulation results are in good agreement with the ballistic impact test results, which further proves that the improvement of yarn mechanical properties and structural optimization can be used as effective methods to improve the ballistic performance of ZnO modified Twaron/polyethylene composite fabrics.
