77GHz Ultrawide-Beam Magneto-electric Dipole Antenna Array with High Isolation

摘要

This paper introduces an array of magnetoelectric dipole antennas that have wide beams and high isolations. The array is fabricated using low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology and has a dimension of 23.4×23.4×0.385 mm3 (6×6×0.1 λ0, where λ0 is the wavelength in the free space at 77 GHz). The array consists of four receiving antennas located at the four corners of the LTCC, respectively, and one transmitting antenna located at the center. And these transmitting and receiving antennas are consistent in all characteristics. Simulated results show that it has impedance bandwidth (S11 < -10 dB) from 71.6 GHz to 81.8 GHz, and 3dB beamwidth of 180°in both E and H planes at 77 GHz. Soft surfaces comprised of vias and annulus strips are employed to suppress surface waves so that the isolations among the antennas can be enhanced. It is found 50 dB of isolation can be achieved between the transmitting and receiving antennas.
