摘要

In the past two decades, the reactive material-enhanced warhead has developed into the technology frontier of the damaging technological revolution. This technology significantly supports and leads the development of highly lethal warheads by providing a new way to enhance their lethality. Thus, this paper describes the lethality constitution and the challenges involved in significantly improving the lethality of the existing warheads and outlines the payoffs of the reactive material-enhanced warheads. The paper also presents the progress in reactive materials in terms of formulation, fabrication, and shock responses. It also characterizes the terminal effects in terms of penetration performance, chemical energy release effect, enhanced structural damage effect, enhanced ignition effect, and enhanced initiation effect. In addition, the paper presents the potential applications of these effects to warheads, such as reactive material-enhanced fragmentation warheads, shaped charge warheads, and penetrating warheads. Finally, the paper discusses the future development prospects of reactive materials and their applications.
