Abstract
To confirm whether there is the recompression signal in ceramics experiment which characterizes the failure wave, one-dimension strain plate impact experiments were conducted, and the free-surface particle velocity-time curves from the different thicknesses specimens were obtained by the VISAR system. The analyzed results show that the recompression signals on the particle velocity curves are all reflected from the interface between the flyer and the specimen rather than somewhere of the internal failure boundary in specimen. It is verified that there is no characteristic signal of failure wave in ceramic experiments. Moreover, the ceramic specimens used in the experiments were polished to reflect the laser well in order to avoid the influence caused by the aluminum coating on the specimen surface.
