Abstract

(Figure Presented) Step by step: Pentanuclear clusters (see picture) are synthesized as building units for the construction of three-dimensional, diamondlike networks. The ESI mass spectra of these clusters reveal that the pentanuclear units maintain their structural integrity before condensing into frameworks, thereby allowing a successful step-by-step assembly.
