Abstract

Particle jets driven by a central explosion determine dispersal of particles in a blast impact flow field. The dynamic fragmentation of sand shells with different saturation levels subjected to a central explosion was tracked with the high-speed photograph technique. The critical conditions of jets formation and the characteristics of jets were obtained. The stretch and dispersal of particle jets were examined with the vibration acceleration signals of targets generated by the impact of jets. It was found that the interstitial fluid plays an important role in both formation and evolvement of particle jets.
