Abstract

Octaphenylsilsesquioxane (OPS) was used in the insulator materials based on ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber. The mechanical properties, linear ablative rate, smoke production and density of the EPDM/OPS heat insulation materials were determined. Compared with the EPDM heat insulation materials without OPS, part replacement of ammonium phosphate (APP) by OPS decreases linear ablative rate, smoke production and density, and improves mechanical properties.
