Study on dressing experiment of dish diamond grinding wheel with cup diamond wheel

Abstract

The dressing experiments on large diameter dish diamond grinding wheel with cup diamond wheel was carried out and studied. Based on the establishment of a theoretic model of dressing dish diamond wheel with cup wheel, a dresser was developed for the experiments. In order to find out the processing rules between different conditions and dressing efficiency, dressing surface quality, a series of contrast experiments were conducted upon dressing the dish diamond grinding wheel with the dresser in different conditions such as different kinds of principal axis speed, dressing depth, type of bond and size of diamond of cup wheel. It is concluded that when the principal axis speed is 500 r/min and the dressing depth is 0.02 mm, the dressing effect will be the best. Comparing small grain size and middle density of cup wheel with big grain size and high density of cup wheel, the latter has better truing efficiency and dressing surface quality. Meanwhile, if the cup diamond wheel and cup GC wheel were used alternately, the dressing efficiency and surface quality can be improved enormously.
