Abstract

Many construction companies have instigated a variety of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to meet the increasing demands and expectations of society and to maintain a good corporate image. However, they also face some of the most difficult CSR challenges of any other industrial sector. Construction companies must respond to these challenges by considering their different stakeholders and addressing CSR performance concerns from various stakeholders. This paper seeks to identify the patterns of integrating CSR issues into construction companies' strategies by defining the full spectrum of CSR concerns, and selecting CSR indicators groups. Based on principles of CSR, the impacts of construction activities and corresponding CSR performance strategies are analyzed at both business and organizational level. A CSR matrix structuring the CSR issues, stakeholders involved and indicators applicable is presented in the paper as a CSR performance guidance and a useful tool for performance assessment in construction companies.
