Abstract
Gradient (Ti, Al) N coating was deposited on 1Cr11Ni2W2MoV stainless steel for aero-engine compressor blades by arc ion plating. The XRD results show that the gradient coating has a B1 (NaCl) structure with (220) preferred orientation. The coating was uniform and dense. The elemental gradient distributions of Ti and Al were confirmed by electron probe microanalysis. The surface and cross-sectional morphologies of the coating were investigated by scanning electron microscopy. The experiments indicate that the gradient (Ti, Al) N coating can obviously enhance the wear resistance and other mechanical properties.
