Abstract

A new approach was proposed to identify the six degrees of freedom of a shooting device based on the projection plane in a three-dimensional space, aiming to overcome the limitations in current methods. This positioning technique adopts both laser emission and image recognition technologies. First, virtual projection equipment mounted on the shooting device emits multiple beams of laser lights to a given projection plane. Second, the projection points on the plane are picked up via a calibrated camera. Third, the positions of projecting points are computed. Furthermore, with the data acquired above, the position and attitude of the virtual shooting device based on the plane can be acquired. At last, the factors affecting the positioning accuracy are analyzed. The method has been applied in the system of virtual fire-fighting training.
