Abstract

In this paper, the quasi-static mechanical behaviors of particle reinforced aluminum/polytetrafluoroethylene (Al/PTFE) reactive composites are studied. The mechanical behaviors of composites with the volume fraction of 30% W, WC, SiC and SiO2 respectively are compared by the quasi-static compression test, and the failure mechanism is analyzed. Test results show that SiC/SiO2 particle reinforced composites show better toughness, while W/WC particle reinforced composites show more brittleness. The failure mechanism analysis indicates that the failure of particle reinforced composites is mainly caused by matrix fracture and particle spalling from the matrix.
