Abstract

The weather radar on the airship can receive not only the echo of meteorological particles but also sea clutter in the typhoon observation over the sea surface. Since sea clutter will interfere with the monitoring of rain targets, it is necessary to clarify the impacts of sea clutter. This paper mainly studies the modelling and analysis of the effects of the mainlobe clutter and sidelobe clutter on the airship-borne weather radar observations. Besides, the signal-to-clutter ratio (SCR) of the clutter area is quantitatively estimated and calculated. Finally,it can be concluded that the SCRs in the area affected by the mainlobe clutter are less than 20dB when the incident angle is below 60 degrees and the SCRs in the area affected by the sidelobe clutter are mostly less than 20dB for small incident angles (<10 degrees). The research can support the further researches on clutter suppression methods in airship-born weather radar.
