Abstract

The mechanism of dynamic instability of rolling missile was analyzed by describing the dynamics of rolling missile as a closed loop with dynamic negative feedback. Based on the perturbed equations of motion of rolling missile, the perturbed movement framework of rolling missile was depicted. By some simplification, the rolling missile was described as a closed loop dynamic system with dynamic negative feedback, which consisted of two two-order links. According to logarithm frequency stability criterion, the reason why Magnus effect results in dynamic instability of rolling missile was proposed based on open loop properties of the system. A calculation example was given. The result shows that the rotating rate bound of dynamic instability of missile obtained by open loop stability analysis is equal to the result computed by universal rotating rate bound formula based on closed loop pole position constraint.
