Abstract

A layered QAM constellation generation method is proposed and it is applied to the SIM-OFDM system. In this method, the bit sequence is grouped layer by layer according to the specific bit and mapped to the corresponding constellation points. In this paper, the 24QAM-SIM-OFDM, 48QAM-SIM-OFDM, 80QAM-SIM-OFDM and 120QAM-SIM-OFDM constellations are generated by this method, and their performance is analyzed. The result shows that the BER of 80QAM-SIM-OFDM is lower than that of 64QAM-SIM-OFDM when SNR is low. And when BER is 3.8×10−3, the SNR requirement of layered 80QAM-SIM-OFDM signal is about 0.12 dB lower than that of 64QAM-SIM-OFDM, and the SNR requirement of layered 120QAM-SIM-OFDM signal is about 3 dB lower than that of 128QAM-SIM-OFDM.
