Abstract

The chemical constituent of Cassia occidentalis is studied in this work. The compounds were isolated by column chromatography on silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 and recrystallization. Their structures were determined on the basis of physico-chemical properties and spectroscopic methods such as 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR. Five compounds were isolated from the chloroform fraction of 95% ethanolic extract of Cassia occidentalis seeds. They were identified as physcion (1); stigmasterol (2); 5, 7'-biphyscion (3); monopalmitin (4); stigmasterol-3-β-D-glucopyranoside (5), respectively. The last three compounds (3, 4 and 5) are isolated from the Cassia occidentalis for the first time.
